WORLD ASSEMBLY OF URBAN INHABITANTS

Make our voices heard
Rethinking the city from the grassroots

Mexico City, 2-6 October 2000

Women's Caucus

A number of Mexican women's organizations and groups that work on gender issues invited the women delegates at the World Assembly of Urban Inhabitants to two meetings.

The initial objective of the meetings was to have a time to share the experiences of the work that women are doing in their different countries.

About 80 women who are active urban inhabitants from around the world attended the meetings.

After sharing our work and personal lives we agreed to the following:

1. We need to insure continuing communication and exchange of the experiences of the women urban inhabitants.

2. We need to co-ordinate and link our efforts in order to meet our goals.

3. We need to promote relationships with other established women's groups.

In order to do this we agreed to focus on three activities:

1. To insure that all organizations that include Women Urban Inhabitants have access to new and advanced communication technology, including the training and computers to make the communication between women around the world easier.

2. To work together and co-ordinate our efforts in order to hold, in the near future, an international meeting of Women Urban Inhabitants. This will allow for discussion and analysis of issues facing women living in urban centers.

3. To unite the work of the women urban inhabitants in Mexico and from there push for the strengthening of an international network of Women Urban Inhabitants.
